What Kind of Person are you?

What kind of person are you?

texts: 1 Corinthians 2: 14-15.

1 Corinthians 3: 1-3. Galatians 5: 19-21 Gal 5: 22-23.

Goal: Edification

Motivation: on the mirror.

Many of us this morning, before coming to service, looked at  a mirror. Some of our sisters even have small mirrors in their handbags. In our vehicles and in the toilets, we find mirrors too. The word of God is a mirror too. It allows us to show or to see ourselves as we are. [James 1: 23 For if anyone is the hearer of  the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing  his natural face in a mirror 24 for he observes himself,  goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. ] .

Contextes

1 Corinthians 2:6-16:

Paul argues that the spirit is necessary to understand God wisdom since it cannot be perceived through human nature.

1 Corinthians 3:1-23:

Paul warns the Corinthians against judging their leaders according to human wisdom instead of God’s wisdom.

CHRISTIAN

2 Kinds :

CHRETIEN CHARNEL  CHARNAL MAN: sarkikos

1 Corinthians 3 : 1-3 :

For me, brethren, I was not able to speak to you as spiritual men, but as to carnal men , as to children in Christ.

3 ( 3-2) because you are still carnal . (3-3) Indeed, since there is among you jealousy and disputes, are you not carnal, and do you not walk according to the man ?

The carnal Christian can only grasp the elementary truths that are symbolized by the milk.

He is more concerned to satisfy his personal desires to do what pleases God. The carnal Christian is like a baby who does what he wants, like the man of the world. He confides in his own strength to live the Christian life .

The life of the carnal Christian has the following characteristics :

Often :

He does not trust God

disobeys to the Word of God

Do not help others to come to Christ

Do not pray enough

Does not have much interest in reading the Word of God

A impure thoughts

he can

Feeling guilty

To be jealous

To worry

Be discouraged

Judge others with rigor

Get angry

Note that

Jesus Christ is still his savior and present in his life. In fact, the Christian is on the throne to lead his own life

The Holy Spirit remains in the life of the carnal Christian but He does not direct it completely .

The carnal Christian wants to please God sometimes, but often finds that he can not do what is pleasing to Him (Romans 7 : 15, 18, 24). He confides in his own strength, which is not enough. As a result, the carnal Christian does not know a full and happy life. He often feels frustrated. Sometimes he does not even act like a Christian .

The works of the flesh after Gal 5 : 19-21 : Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

20 idolatry , magic, enmities, quarrels, jealousies, animosities, disputes, divisions, sects,

21 envy , drunkenness, overeating, and the like. I tell you beforehand, as I have already said, that those who commit such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

I can add sorcery.

SPIRITUAL MAN: pneumatikos

15 The spiritual man , on the contrary, judges everything, and he himself is judged by no one.

Jesus Christ is at the center of his life. The man gave him the place of authority . Jesus Christ directs the aspects of his life, bringing harmony with God’s plan. Thus, this Christian lives to serve Christ.

This man has the desire to please God, read the Bible and pray. He wants to talk about Christ and  frequent other Christians. His life will manifest the gifts of the Holy Spirit (Gal 5 : 22)

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

23 ( 5-22) gentleness, temperance ; (5-23) The law is not against these things.

He is not yet perfect but he is confident that God is acting in his life and using it.

2 / The Spiritual Man (V 15; 3: 1; 9:11; 14: 3715: 44-46, Gal6: 1) This Man Is Living Under the Control of the Holy Spirit and Minds of the Spirit ( Rom 8 : 1-13 Gal 5: 16-26). He has the mind of Christ and discerns and esteems spiritual things above the sensual. He is a new creature and resurrected from death in trespasses and sins. (2 Cor 5: 17-18, Eph 2: 1-9; 4: 22-24). The lower animal passions have been crucified and put off.

Here it is the natural man acting in contrast to the spiritual man-living in the babyhood of Christian faith. Paul classes envying, strife, and divisions over preachers as carnality.

Which of these types best represents your life?
